Why Canting Your Mag Pouches and Holster Matters

Writer: Brandon WrightBrandon Wright

As we travel all over the U.S., teaching law enforcement and military officers, we see a wide range of skills and equipment setups. Some officers are permitted to change the way they set up their holsters and mag pouches, while other agencies are still stuck in the 80’s where everything must be the same for each officer.

There are two things I recommend when it comes to setting up your mag pouches and holsters. The first thing I recommend is separating your mag pouches. This way you can fully grasp your intended magazine and not disturb the second magazine. The other thing I recommend is adjusting the angle of your mag pouch and holster. From my experience, the advantage I get by canting these pieces of equipment backward is the straight alignment of my wrist and elbow (see the attached picture). With my elbow and wrist in line, all I have to do is drop my elbow causing my gun and/or magazine to take the path of least resistance. As a result, this gives me a faster overall time.
