Skillz&Drillz: The WSC Standards

Everyone has drills to evaluate a shooter's skill and answers the question, “Can you accomplish this?” Our standards are no different, except for one thing. They meet you where you are.  This means the standards aren’t set out so far that no one can make the times, yet they will hold you accountable for your training. The skills held at certain line yards are exactly that; they’re skills.  The times on the standards are based on my twenty years of experience shooting. One interesting thing about these standards is that, when you are done shooting them, you can find all of the advised times posted on the back of the sheet for the different components of your run. For example,  if you shoot a tier 3 in time, you can see what your goals for tier 2 and tier 1 times are. In class, I break down the draw, split, and reload to improve keeping the exact same times in those areas and bringing you to success. Only having a fast split will not get you to the next level if it's your draw that needs work. To help me grow personally, I have kept a logbook of my performance over the years and it has been the way to get to the next level.

We have standards for both pistols and rifles. You can download them at WrightShooting.com in the footer or resource page. Give them a shot next time you're on the range, and see which area of work you need to be focused on for the next couple of weeks.
